Words by Lord Byron (1788-1824)
Nous n’irons plus errer
So we'll go no more a-roving
Bien que le coeur soit toujours aussi aimant,
So late into the night,
Et la lune toujours aussi brillante.
Though the heart be still as loving,
And the moon be still as bright.
Car l’épée use le fourreau,
For the sword outwears its sheath,
Et l’âme use la poitrine,
And the soul outwears the breast,
And the heart must pause to breathe,
Et le cœur doit faire une pause pour respirer,
And love itself have rest.
Et l’amour lui-même doit se reposer.
Though the night was made for loving,
And the day returns too soon,
Bien que la nuit était faite pour l’amour,
Yet we'll go no more a-roving
Et le jour revient trop tôt,
By the light of the moon.
Cependant nous n’irons plus errer
